The final round of the TigersPLUS Members SGP Quiz on Wednesday night served up a pulsating finale to what has been a competitive but enjoyable GP series over the last four weeks. Broadcast live from the virtual ‘Ashfield’ stadium of dreams, the 10 riders who competed the final round gave their all but in the end there could only be one winner.
Ally Nicolson, the leader throughout the campaign, made it home by the width of a tyre after an off form evening. Had complacency set in, had he forgotten his lucky underpants or put them on back to front…who knows! He made it, that was the main goal at the start of the night, and now becomes the proud owner of a 2014 #1 Tigers racejacket and the coveted title of T+ Members SGP Champion 2020. Congratulations Ally!
Ian Adam hunted Ally down like Rob Grant senior in his pomp (and we know how frightening that could be), and he nearly pipped Ally on the line. 7 points adrift at the start of the ‘meeting’, a valiant effort saw him finish only 2 points adrift. A fine second place being the reward for some solid scoring however perhaps Ian will rue the decision to use his lawnmower engine in round 2. The top step could have been his!
Finishing an impressive 3rd equal and, despite physical separation in the ‘pits’,
JJacqueline Jac McNaught and Dorothy McNaught managed to put in strong rostrum securing performances. This third placed finish was well deserved after solid scoring throughout the series by both ‘riders’, and it does go to show how effective team riding comes to the fore (only joking ladies )!
Best of the rest came ex Tigers promoter Colin Hamilton in 5th who showed his liking of the Ashfield circuit. There is no truth in the rumour he bribed the ‘referee’ to make all the right answers ‘B’. He said something about he could cover up the ‘cash’ through some creative accounting.…..but I thought I shouldn’t mention it to anyone………ahem!!!
In 6th place was Karen Nicolson, who jumped a massive 6 places after a sublime ‘Ashfield’ performance. Karen may just now be rueing the decision to stay at home last week and watch Michael MacIntyre on the telly! A solid score last week may have seen a push for a rostrum place!
In 7th was Dot Mcmanus despite missing this week due to a prior engagement called work! Now this condition can get in the way of a rostrum place occasionally but according to Google you can sort this for future years by asking to take over responsibility for what is called ‘the staffing rota’! This revised ‘training’ approach should hopefully enable Dot (and any other ‘rider’ in a similar position) to compete in all rounds in 2021!
To the remainder of the SGP lineup, notable mentions to Lewis Hamilton, Diane Mcshane, Kenneth Malcolm, Claire Harkness, David Adam, Chris Malcolm and Alan Watt. Hats off to you all for participating in the fun and making the GP series what is was. Just so you know you have all secured places in next years’ SGP Quiz challenge therefore won’t need to go through the 2 GP Challenge meetings that are being held on the islands of Benbecula and Barra in January 2021!
Many thanks again from the TigersPLUS Committee and watch this space for details of future quizzes.
The final table standings is below and pictures of our Champion Ally with his 2014 #1 Tigers racejacket that was presented by committee member Colin Hamilton today. Congratulations once again Ally!
